Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #23

Hi, everyone !!

Time has gotten the better of me this week. Or, rather, a lack of time (to be more precise) which means that I've had to (temporarily) forego my usual introductory paragraph and some of the additional channel details in order to make sure that I could still publish a basic list of ALL NEW ADDITIONS to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store for your perusal. I won't bore you with the details but, to cut a long story short, I've been busy with other matters for the past couple of days and will continue to be for the next few days to come. Rest assured that, at some point later this week, I will come back to this post and flesh it out with all of the missing information. Meanwhile please accept my apologies for presenting you with this unfinished article but, hopefully, you'll find some use from what I've included thus far and can bear with me while I finish things off properly.

Still, let's get on with the details I do have for the current 'Weekly RoundUp' of NEW ADDITIONS to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store. This time, there are NINE NEW CHANNELS which have been added during the past seven days. These latest additions to the Roku UK Channel Store provided FRESH CONTENT to the Film & TV, Internet TV, plus Religion & Spirituality genres (i.e. categories).

In keeping with previous installments from the 'Weekly RoundUp' series, details of these new channels have all been listed below, together with links to obtain further information {by clicking on the channel name(s) beneath the respective channel icon(s) as pictured} and to read a 'Roku Guide' review for each one:-

So, whether it's War Movies & Raw Footage from Past World Wars, Downloading Movies from The Cloud, Hit Movies & Hollywood Classics, Full-Length Music Documentaries, Dramas & Other Films, Assorted Religious Programming, or even Gaming & Tech News, we've pretty much got all those bases covered with these latest NEW ADDITIONS to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store.

Anyway, like it or not, that is your lot for this week and I am delighted to say that (after several weeks of lagging behind) we have (once again) managed to exceed the number of channels which made it into the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store during the same time-frame. In case you are wondering, there were eight channels added to the Roku USA Channel Store during this past week. Again, it was a close-run contest and, let's be honest, there wasn't much in it really with a difference of only one channel. Still, no matter which side of the pond you are on, we can all count ourselves lucky to have SOME NEW CHOICES, rather than none, I'm sure you agree ?!!

Still, hopefully everyone in the UK with a Roku player managed to find something they like within the nine channels outlined above. If not, then you'll have to pay us a visit another time when, with any luck, there will be something more to your liking. Afterall, there's no point installing every channel because, as I've said before, when it comes to adding new channels to your Roku player, IT'S YOUR CHOICE and, as with all things Roku... THE CHOICE IS ALWAYS YOURS !!

Meanwhile, in my previous 'Weekly RoundUp', I suggested that we all spare a thought for those poor folk who handed over their hard-earned cash for one of the NEW NowTV Boxes [Powered by Sky] and, yes, that did include me. The reason for my saying so was that, despite the promise of "more great content" with "more apps being continually added", there hadn't been a single extra new channel added since the player was launched. Time has since moved on and so (it seems) has the tumbleweed...

However, despite the movement of time (and tumbleweed), there has (yet again) been NO ACTION in terms of NEW ADDITIONS to the channel selection on the NowTV Box. All of which means that NowTV [Powered by Sky] have managed to (once more) produce a (NOT SO) GRAND TOTAL of absolutely ZERO NEW CHANNELS to add to their (already SEVERELY REDUCED) version of the Roku Channel Store that features on the NowTV Box. Meanwhile, the "Official" Roku Channel Store that features on all UK Roku players has added NINE EXTRA CHANNELS during that same period of time. To put things into perspective, in the three weeks since the launch of the NowTV Box, there has been a total of TWENTY EXTRA CHANNELS added to the "Official" Roku Channel Store on UK Roku players, compared with NO EXTRA CHANNELS being added to the Roku Channel Store on the streaming player from NowTV. As I said before, if the NowTV Box is going to succeed, they need to show that it really is "Powered by Sky" and ensure that their device lives up to it's moniker by adding those "must-see shows" from Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts and Sky Living "NOW" rather than "later this year". Should this lack of support for their streaming media player continue, they risk it being branded as the "NO TV BOX" as people become more frustrated at the lack of channel choices.

Still, whether you happen to own a Roku player, a NowTV Box, OR BOTH, as I do... be sure to come back in seven days' time for my next 'Weekly RoundUp' and, if you can't wait that long, remember you can always keep up with all the UK Roku action (as it happens) throughout the coming week, by following the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels where up-to-the-minute info on all things Roku-related (here in the UK) is posted on a daily basis (well, almost).

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!

    1. Hi, Nick !!

Thanks for taking the time & trouble to leave a comment. It's much appreciated.

As regular readers of this blog will already be aware, the BBC News App (as featured on the NowTV Box) did originally get added to the Roku UK Channel Store for the Roku player, as well as for the NowTV Box. I was fortunate enough to spot it in there and add it to my Roku account, at that time, as well as give it a brief try. The next day, without any prior warning, the channel was removed from both the Roku UK Channel Store (on Roku Player) AND from my Roku account / Roku player. There has been no further update as to whether this channel will return to the Roku player ever since this happened. The only thing I can say for sure is that I did experience some issues with the aspect ratio during playback on the Roku player and that (maybe) this could be the reason for it's withdrawal from the Roku UK Channel Store on the Roku player. Technically, there is no reason why it couldn't be on the Roku player (both the Roku LT and the Roku 2 XS, for that matter) so we'll just have to hope that it does reappear at some time in the near future.

Meanwhile, you'll have to make do with the other sources for BBC News that ARE AVAILABLE on Roku player unless (like me) you have a NowTV Box as well (of course) !!

If the situation changes, I will post details as to the availability of the BBC News App on Roku player on this blog and, most likely, via the companion Twitter Feed. So stay tuned to both sources on as regular basis for further updates on this and other UK Roku news.
