Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #230

Hi, everyone !!

If you happen to follow the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, then you will already be aware that it has been yet another quiet week, in terms of Roku-related news... and, as a result, I intend to get straight to the more important task of bringing you details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which have been made available during this past week! :-)

While it's far from being another epic list of fifty-plus channels as it was five weeks ago, you will find a handful of options for "Film & TV" fans, and a few more free music-related channels, as well as an additional "News & Weather" channel, plus a channel for the conspiracy theorists among you and a another "Educational" channel pertaining to the paranormal to keep you entertained over the coming weeks and months. In fact, while it's only a comparatively short list, there should be something to please most streamers here. If not, then I did share details for some more private channels (via social media) this week that may be of interest. Take a look at my Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels if you'd like to know more about those and, while you're there, maybe "Like" and/or "Retweet" some of my messages to help spread the word about what's happening Roku-wise in the UK and beyond! ;-) :-)

Anyway, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps which have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. Like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, then be sure to read this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

Before I run through the new channels, however, a reminder that UK Roku users are still subject to restrictions (imposed by Roku) and (bizarrely) remain unable to access the channel descriptions from the web store on the Roku (USA) website. That said, the majority of text in those web listings can also be found within the individual descriptions from the built-in "Channel Store" (accessed via "Streaming Channels" from the main menu) on all Roku devices and, together with the associated screenshots (where available), should give a pretty good indication of what those channels are about.

My advice to any UK-based readers of this blog is to ignore the links below (and to the left of) each channel icon shown here and (instead) rely on the link to the right (below each channel icon) which (where available) will redirect you to an 'Roku Guide' review for additional details on that channel. As it stands, the links below (and to the left of) each icon are (currently) only of use to readers of this blog from the USA. This means that Roku users from the other "supported" regions of the world (i.e. Ireland, Canada, France and Mexico) are, like those of us in the UK, unable to browse the Roku Web Channel Store - which for now (at least) remains an exclusive privilege of Roku users in the USA. :-(

Hopefully Roku will (one day) wake-up to the fact that improving the experience for users in "other" Roku "regions" is just as important as it is for those who buy & use their products in the U.S. and that denying access to the Roku website does not help the end-user experience for those of us (outside the USA) who wish to browse the web channel store. Meanwhile, that which Roku (apparently) doesn't want UK Roku users to see on their website (i.e. the list of new channels) is regularly summarised on this blog in my 'Weekly RoundUp' posts. So, without further ado, here's my 'Weekly RoundUp' of all the new Roku channels released between 30th July 2017 and 5th August 2017:-

FTV 12 FASHIONTV CHANNELS.....COST: FREE-TO-ADD + SUBSCRIPTION FEES [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "LIFESTYLE" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That, while 'FTV 12 fashiontv channels' is FREE-TO-ADD to your Roku device(s) and does offer a selection of FREE-TO-VIEW videos promoting each of the available sub-channels, if you wish to stream more than just trailer-style previews... A SUBSCRIPTION IS REQUIRED for full access to the content library. Unfortunately, the pricing information supplied by the developer of this channel is not very clear - as evidenced by this (partial) screenshot from the channel description:-

HINT:- Please CLICK on the above image TO ENLARGE IT for easier viewing !!

Personally, I was able to come up with several possible permutations for what each of the price plans might be, based on the information shown in the above screenshot image, but none that I would be prepared to publish (with any certainty) for the purposes of this 'Weekly RoundUp' post. If you read the 'Roku Guide' review (see link above) for this channel, you will notice they made similar remarks in respect of the subscription fee(s): "No, we don't understand the fee descriptions either, and weren't going to subscribe and pay to find out"... which is quite understandable, under the circumstances !!

Consequently, I would advise anyone with an interest in subscribing to this channel to first reach-out to the developer / content provider, either via their "Official" Twitter Feed: @FashionTV or through their FB page: FTV [aka FashionTV] (Facebook), to get confirmation about the pricing. Should your efforts prove to be fruitless, using social media, I would suggest a visit to the official website for 'FTV' where further contact information can be found. Meanwhile, if I hear anything from them myself, I will update the information included in this post... however, if you should manage to get hold of any payment details before I do, I'd be grateful if you could share that info via the comments section at the end of this post, or by messaging me on Twitter: @ukrokuchannels with your findings.

MAVAVISIÓN.........................................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

CONSPIRACY CHANNEL....................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "SPECIAL INTEREST" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

VMA CONNECT....................................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "UNCATEGORIZED" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That, since this 'VMA Connect' channel was filed under "Movies & TV" in the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store at the time of it's release, you would normally expect to see it listed under the UK equivalent category of "Film & TV" but that is not the case in this instance. As of now, this channel exists only in the "New" category of the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store... and that means, if it is not assigned a permanent category (such as "Film & TV", suggested above) within the next four weeks, it will "disappear" from the Roku Channel Store in the UK and be unavailable for installation by any UK Roku user that has not already added it to their channel selection during it's rather limited tenure in the "New" category. It does not help that the developer credit given for the channel store description bears the (somewhat) cryptic name of 'md40'... meaning it will be difficult to contact them and advise them as to the impending removal of their (still) fledgling app in the UK. However, I will do my best to reach-out through the various channels available to me and (hopefully) get them to assign a permanent channel store category in the UK before it is too late! Meanwhile, I suggest that anyone with an interest in this channel, based on the details given in the 'Roku Guide' review (see link above) should endeavour to add 'VMA Connect' before the end of August 2017 so that, if it does disappear from the channel store, at least you will still be able to gain access to it from your own channel selection on the 'Home Screen' of your UK Roku device! ;-) :-)

*********************************************

Anyhow, like it or not, that is your lot this week and, while it's barely more than fifty-five per cent of the twenty-nine channels that made it into the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store in the same time-frame, it's still better to get these 16 NEW CHANNELS than none at all... as I'm sure you'll agree?!

In any event, hopefully everyone in the UK with a Roku player managed to find something they like within the sixteen "public" channels outlined above... or else from the "private" channels, whose access codes were "gifted" to you via the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, at various points throughout the past week. However, if you didn't find anything to add to your Roku channel selection from the assortment of channels on offer this week, you can always pay us a visit another time when, with any luck, there will be something more to your liking. After all, there's no point installing every channel because, like I say... when it comes to adding new channels to your Roku, IT'S YOUR CHOICE and, as with all things Roku... THE CHOICE IS ALWAYS YOURS!

*********************************************

As mentioned previously, you can expect my usual summary of all the goings-on (or not) in the (severely restricted) Roku Channel Store (aka "App Store") that features on NowTV Boxes to follow in the near future. Meanwhile, whether you happen to own a Roku player, a NowTV Box, OR BOTH, as I do... be sure to check my earlier posts (as mentioned before) for all the new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store in each of the one hundred and fifty-six preceding weeks and then come back again in seven days' time for my next 'Weekly RoundUp'. However, if you can't wait that long, remember you can always keep up with all the UK Roku action (as it happens) throughout the coming week, by following the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels where up-to-the-minute info on all things Roku-related (here in the UK) is posted on a daily basis (well, almost).

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!
